Morris Minor 1000 Traveller “Woody”

The Morris Minor had a very long production from 1948-1971. Over 1.6 million cars over 3 production series. This example being one of the later “1000” models from 1967. The “Traveller” was first introduced in 1953, it is an estate car with a very distinctive exposed wooden frame. Often referred to as a “woody” the Traveller has a strong following from collectors and enthusiasts alike. The wooden frame requires a lot of maintenance and as a result many of these cars have been lost to woodworm or rot. Surviving examples offer owners a very usable classic car to enjoy at car meets and events. Near to our Endyke Tyres branch in Cottingham we have one of the few remaining specialists that can repair and replace these timbers, working on cars from all over the world they use fully seasoned English Ash and traditional skills to keep these quintessentially British cars in as new condition.

Endyke Tyres fitted a full set of five Nankang NA1 Tyres. The customer choosing to replace all the tyres, including the spare, due to age and cracking of the rubber. There is no specific law governing the maximum age of car tyres in the UK. Most car and tyre manufacturers along with breakdown service providers recommend a maximum tyre age of 5 years or less in extreme conditions. Tyres left under used can dry out and crack. When carrying out your pressure and tread checks, it is also important to check the tyres age and overall condition. Impact damage and age-related problems are harder to spot. There is a four-digit DOT, or date-code stamped into the side of every tyre during production. The first two digits represent the “week number” within the year it was manufactured. The second two digits confirm the year of construction. For example, “1023” would be the 10th week of 2023. If you can’t find the DOT code on your tyre or have any concerns about the age or condition of your tyre, our technicians can help with a FREE tyre check at all our locations.

Nankang NA1

Described as “A daily commuter tyre for small car fitments” by Nankang themselves. The NA1 is a lightweight tyre with a narrow tread to help reduce rolling resistance. Perfect for city and town driving with comfort and low noise. This makes it a great option for this Morris 1000. The car would have originally been supplied in 1967 with 5.20-14 cross ply tyres. Radial tyres are a much better option than the now outdated cross ply technology. Cross ply tyres are still available from us through classic tyre specialists and from selected manufacturers. They are mainly used now for museum and concourse show cars. Anyone using their classic cars on a more regular basis will benefit from fitting the modern radial tyres.

When changing your tyres, it’s important to make sure the spare wheel and tyre is in a usable condition. Visit any of our local branches for the best advice on maintaining your spare.

Don’t have a spare in your car? We can also offer a Continental ContiMobilityKit to make sure to get you home safely. If you have the room for one, we can also offer customers a complete “Road Hero” Spacesaver wheel and toolkit for most makes and models.
