Front Wheel Alignment on Four-Wheel Drive Tractors & Telehandlers
Article written by Bush TyresAre your tractor or telehandler tyres wearing unevenly?
If they are, it is more than likely that your front wheels are misaligned.
The misalignment of the front wheels of your tractor can seriously affect the life of your tyres, increase fuel consumption, and negatively affect the performance of your tractor. The front wheels of your tractor should be set parallel, with a maximum tolerance of +/- 2mm. If the front wheel alignment is not set correctly the tyres will wear rapidly and unevenly meaning that you will need to replace the tyres much sooner than expected.
Misalignment | Loss of tread life* |
5mm | 12% |
10mm | 24% |
15mm | 36% |
20mm | 48% |
* Usage: 50% road – 50% field
Based on this excessive wear and loss of tread life, the loss in pounds is incredibly significant as shown below:
To save money, it is always worth have your tractor wheel alignment checked and adjusted, particularly after fitting new tyres. A Bush tyres technician can check and adjust the wheel alignment on most makes and models of tractor or telehandler.
