The Classic Mini-Flame

The classic mini is without doubt a design classic. This Flame edition in bright red visited our Grimsby depot recently for a full set of 165/60HR12 Yokohama A539 tyres. Easily our most popular choice of fitment on these “mini light” alloy wheels.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you’d have to agree the car looks great finished in “Flame Red.” Part of the limited run of “Flame Editions” introduced in 1989 and based on the “Mini City” with a 998cc engine and available exclusively in this bright red colour with a white roof. The exterior has chrome bumpers and a black grille. It has white coach lines along with the Flame logo on the rear quarter.

Originally the car came with steel wheels and full width wheel trims also finished in white. The production run was limited to only 1000 units apart from the colour the Flame was identical to the popular “Racing Green” and “Checkmate (Black) models also released as special editions.

Powder Coating

This owner has enhanced the sporty look of the car by adding these wider fitment 8-spoke Minilite wheels along with the wider than standard Yokohama Tyres. To make sure the car is presented the best it possibly can be, Grimsby depot arranged for the wheels to be professionally stripped, and powder coated to this brilliant chrome finish. The wheels now look as fresh as the day they left the factory and the finish will now last for many years to come with no worry of corrosion damage causing any avoidable slow leaks.

Yokohama A539 Tyres

The Yokohama tyre company is a Japanese tyre manufacturer founded in 1917. They were the first tyre manufacturer to be granted ISO90001 certification in recognition of their quality assurance. The company offers a wide range of tyres including on and off-road applications, race tyres and even include Truck and Agricultural products.

The company produces over 50m tyres per year and include original equipment (OE) applications for prestige cars including Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota and VW. Their latest developments include new range of “EV ready” tyres the “Sport EV V108” and the “Advan dB V552.”

This mini is running on the now “modern classic” A539 derivative, this tyre has a distinctive asymmetric pattern, immediately recognisable by those that know them. A popular choice for many classic cars such as this original Minis and other classic models. Fitted here in 165/60HR12, the A539 is an all-round sporty tyre, offering ‘Sure Grip’ technology in the wet using advanced silica compounds to ensure traction, even in the most challenging circumstances.

The tyre also has low noise and enhanced comfort giving higher user satisfaction. The Yokohama is durable and tough to give a longer lasting superior performance.
