1972 Porsche 911 2.5 SR Driven by Toni Fischhaber in at Norwich for Full Geometry

Our Norwich branch was lucky enough to be able to work on this 1972 Porsche 911 2.5 SR which came to the depot for full geometry.

The car was one of the original twenty-one genuine factory-built Porsche 911 2.5 SR (M491) built by Porsche back in 1972 which was driven by the well-known Bavarian driver Anton ‘Toni’ Fischhaber. This is the actual1972 and 1974 European Hill Climb Championship winning car!

When the car was brand new, Toni Fischhaber entered it into the 1972 European Hill Climb Championship which included ten races, held in France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. Here he won his second international title in this very car having previously won the same championship before back in 1967 in a Porsche 2.0 911S. Also in 1972, Fischhaber entered the 1000kms race at Nürburgring, Germany where he came 14th overall.

Two years later, in 1974, Fischhaber won the European Hill Climb Championship title again for the second time in this car.

During this time, to remain competitive, the car was updated to 2.8 litre capacity, with wider wheels and a ducktail rear spoiler and then updated again to 3.0 capacity for the 1974 season.

Since then, the car has been fully restored to the original specification in which it left the factory back in 1972, including a full mechanical rebuild and set up. Where possible, the original parts have been preserved and carefully restored back to their original state. Where it was not possible to restore the original parts, any new parts sourced were genuine new old stock (NOS).

The original Type 911/70 engine no. 662 20 39 was replaced with 911/70 engine no. 662 20 34, which came from one of the other twenty-one genuine factory-built cars. Whilst this engine case survived, it was too worn to be re-used in the restoration, so another genuine NOS Type 911/70 case was sourced and used. It has been correctly built to factory 2.5 S-R twin-ignition specification and dynamometer test sheets on file confirm 273.9 bhp at 7,000 rpm.

The Porsche came to us to have full geometry which includes front andrear toe, front and rear camber, front and rear castor and thrust angleadjustments. The Norwich team were of course able to complete this forthe customer as they can with most vehicles, new or classic.
