Tyre Safety Month 2020 – Are your tyres ready for ACTion?
Article written by Bush TyresOctober is Tyre Safety Month and this year TyreSafe, the UK’s charity dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of correct tyre maintenance, is running a campaign to encourage motorists to check their tyres regularly. The campaign covers the three key areas of tyre maintenance:
Air pressure – The entire weight of your car is supported by the air pressure in your tyres. Your tyres can naturally loose air overtime, so it is important that you check it regularly. Frequently checking the air pressure in your tyres can not only improve road safety but also reduce motoring costs and make your vehicle kinder to the environment. When checking your tyre pressure make sure to use an accurate tyre pressure gauge to check the tyres’ air pressure is at the recommended setting. You can check the vehicles owner’s handbook or fuel filler cap to find the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle.
Condition – Check your tyres for any signs of damage including lumps or bulges (which could indicate internal damage) or cuts and cracks. If any of these are found when checking the condition of your tyres, the tyre may need replacing.
Tread depth – The tread depth of a tyre should be checked with an accurate gauge to ensure it is above the minimum legal limit of 1.6mm. If you don’t have a tread depth gauge, there is a simple test you can do with a 20p. Take a 20p coin and insert it into the tread grooves on the tyre. If you can’t see the outer band on the coin, your tyres are above the legal limit. If you can see the outer band then your tyres could be unsafe and require professional inspection by a mechanic.
Remember – don’t ignore your tyres, ACT!

Christmas has arrived early in our Spalding Branch when a visit from two cars which are more than capable of helping Santa deliver his presents faster on Xmas eve. The mighty R33 GTR and an exceptionally rare Lotus Omega Carlton visited for a free WINTER check.
Something a bit different visited our Spilsby depot earlier in the year. ‘Gasser Champ’ Sean Milsom brought in some loose wheels for new tyres to be fitted to his modified Morris Van ahead of competing at Santa Pod and Melbourne Raceways in the ‘Gasser Circus’ race series.
This 1972 Plymouth ‘Roadrunner’ visited our Horncastle Branch recently for a wheel alignment. This huge American muscle car has a 6.6 litre 402 cubic inch V8. With great power comes great responsibility........
