Tyre Safety Month 2023

Article written by Bush Tyres

This month is Tyre Safety month. Running every October since 2010. The event sees TyreSafe.org and industry leaders’ team up to help reduce the number of dangerous tyres on the roads.

What is TyreSafe?

Formed in 2006, TyreSafe was formed to help reduce the number of tyre-related incidents on Britain’s roads by raising awareness and highlighting the importance of tyre maintenance. The dangers of defective and illegal tyres are clear to see, yet people still neglect to regularly check their tyres.

TyreSafe is a charity that receives support from many areas of industry. This includes most major tyre manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers, associated equipment suppliers, and several vehicle manufacturers.

The charity works closely with a wide range of commercial and government organisations, such as National Highways, police and fire services, councils, and many other motoring bodies. TyreSafe’s activities have helped reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured each year in tyre-related accidents by over 46%.

TyreSafe is now the first point of reference for all tyre safety issues. Since October 2010 the “Tyre Safety Month” has highlighted the main issues affecting tyre safety.

Tyre Safety Month – “Be Safe and Save”- Oct ‘23

The message this year is aimed to keep motorists safe, Save Money, and Mitigate Risks. The “Safe and Save” campaign is part of this year’s Tyre Safety Month.

With a playful yet impactful approach, this campaign aims to educate and empower motorists across various groups to prioritise tyre safety, save money, and reduce risks associated with driving on underinflated tyres.

The campaign is a timely reminder of the simple, but effective behaviours motorists can exhibit to make meaningful savings. The “Safe and Save” campaign features animations as well as printed posters and flyers to help engage and support motorists take a proactive stance on tyre safety.

While the campaign carries a humorous tone, it underscores the vital message of the dual importance of being safe on the road and saving money. It compares ‘real life’ savings achieved by performing tyre checks against other less effective and often counterproductive ‘cost-saving’ hacks.
