Bahnstormer BMW E60 M5 V10

Allround tyres were visited by a genuine “Bahnstormer” of a car recently. This stunning Le Mans Blue E60 M5 visited for a full set of Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres. BMW original equipment tyres help keep all 500hp of that glorious V10 engine pointing down the road in the right direction.

BMW E60 M5 – V10

The year was 2004 and the time had come for BMW to unveil its latest M5 Super Saloon! What a change this was, the outgoing E39 M5 with its 400hp 5 litre naturally aspirated V8 and 6 speed manual gearbox surely could not be beaten?

The BMW engineers really pulled out all the stops with the all new F1 derived naturally aspirated V10 with 7 speed paddle shift SMG gearbox. Never had such an engine been considered for a production car. Never mind a performance saloon like the 5 series, with 0-62 times of 4.7 seconds and over 500hp there was not many cars available capable of beating this one. Even some exotic supercar manufacturers would have struggled at the time. Top speed of the BMW E60 M5 was electronically limited to 155mph, but for the dedicated drivers this could be optioned out to 190mph with the “M-Driver’s package.”

The BMW E60 M5 legend was born, the V10 gave this beast of saloon a soundtrack like no other car. The v10 engine also found its way into a limited run of highly desirable M5 estate cars and also the M6 coupe and convertible. M5 saloons will always be the ultimate “sleeper” up there with all the M5 generations before it.

Sadly, the V10 did not continue on to the F10 M5, in 2011 the M5 was replaced by the more efficient 4.4L twin turbocharged V8. Although bigger, lighter and faster than the outgoing BMW E60 M5, the V10 era cars hold a special place in the hearts of BMW M car fanatics across the globe.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

When launched the BMW E60 M5 came with specific “star marked” BMW fitment pilot Supersports. These tyres were specifically developed on partnership with BMW and Michelin for high performance cars and used special reinforced side walls to prevent the tyres becoming misshaped while dealing with the huge demands 500hp will place upon a tyre.

Found here in 255/40ZR19 front and 285/35ZR19 rear sizes, the Supersports replaced with the much newer high-performance tyre from Michelin, the Pilot Sport 4S. This new design tyre uses more modern compounds and tread design that will help deliver even higher performance levels than the original.
