Powerful Jaguar F-Type A Future Classic
Article written by Bush Tyres
Once upon a time a Jaguar F-Type….
Early one sunny morning in our Spilsby branch, this stunning Jaguar F-Type arrived at our depot for the latest Pirelli PZERO tyres to be fitted to this high-performance Grand Tourer. The car having just one front 255/35ZR20 97Y PZERO ‘J’ marked tyre replaced after a puncture that was unfortunately not safe to repair.
Birth of The Jaguar F-Type ‘’R’
We first saw an Jaguar F-Type concept back in 2000. Ian Callum resumed previous work carried out toward an E-Type replacement. Work initially began as early as 1980, that project was cancelled in 1990 to make room for other concepts that made it through to production ahead of the ‘F-Type’. The 2000 concept was based on a 2-seat design to compete with the then “new” Porsche Boxster.
The original designer Geoff Lawson had been working with a team to help bring the concept to life. It was only after his death in 1999 that Sir Ian Callum took over the project. It was again cancelled, this time unfortunately due to budget cuts by Jaguars then parent company Ford as it pursued efforts in F1 over this project at the time.
It then took Jaguar until 2011 for the all new CX-X16 concept to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor show. Sir Ian Callum described the car as “a car that possesses a real sense of latent power, an energy, a real dynamic tension. It’s a statement about the power of this brand to dramatically transform itself. This is a Jaguar at its purest.”
Cranking up The Power
This coupe model F-Type was introduced in 2014 and this example is fitted with the range topping 5L Supercharged V8 engine with 542 hp. Only the SVR model released later in 2016 had more power. The car could get from 0-60mph in under 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 197mph. The second fastest Jaguar ever produced since the XJ220 in 1992. This Jaguar F-Type R model has a staggered front and rear wheel setup. The car features a wider wheel at the back of the car and is fitted with the giant 295/30ZR20 101Y PZERO to help make use of all the power available.
It was in 2016 the Jaguar F-Type models received AWD as standard, these cars are a handful so we can only imagine how much fun this early example is. A certain future ‘modern classic’ and should be very collectable in years to come. Especially with Jaguars latest models only being released as Jaguar transforms itself into an EV only car company. People will look back on these as the glory days of Grace, Pace and Space, they just aren’t making cars like these anymore.
