Metheringham Primary School years 1,2 and 4 learn about Agricultural Tyres

On Tuesday 12th March 2024, Thomas Bush, director of Bush Tyres visited Metheringham Primary school to inspire and educate the next generation on the future of farming, technology, and in particular, the role Agricultural tyres play in maximising farm yields to feed an ever-increasing world population.

The children in years 1, 2 and 4 as part of their curriculum are learning about farming and the technologies involved in food production. With the role modern agricultural tyres play within farming, it was the perfect opportunity for the children to understand that tyres are more complex than they first seem.

Thomas’s talk covered the basics of tyres, the history of Bush Tyres and the development of tyres from their metal wheeled beginnings to advanced VF technologies. From here the children then learned about what the future holds such as robotic self-guided tractors.

Aided in his demonstration were several visual aids such as the “tyre in a box” which was generously loaned to Thomas from the Michelin Agricultural team. The contents of the box allowed the children to better understand the make up and construction of a modern tyre.

The children were delighted with the goodie bags and fluorescent jackets that Bush Tyres and their tyre suppliers had donated. Michelin, Kumho, Bridgestone, Hankook, Goodyear, Toyo and Pirelli were all exceedingly kind in gifting items to the classes.

Throughout each of the three presentations to the three class years, Thomas was impressed with both the fantastic behaviour of the children and the intelligent questions which they asked, the credit for this must go to Metheringham Primary School.

Overall, this was the perfect opportunity for Bush Tyres to demonstrate their commitment to the local community. Thomas representing Bush Tyres was immensely proud to be invited to Metheringham School to be in a small way part of the Lincolnshire educational system.
