Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres for stunning Porsche 911 Carrera Sport with Cash Back!
Article written by Bush TyresThis bright red Porsche 911 Carrera Sport visited ZR Tyres in Lincoln for a full set of Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 tyres. Looking as fresh now as it did in the late 1980s! The customer was also able to make the most of the Michelin Cash Back Promotion before it closes at the end of May.
Porsche 911 Carrera Sport
The iconic 911, has been around in many forms since its first launch in 1964. Over 8 major generational changes to the model range and within them countless “families” of trim and engine combinations. This owner’s car, being produced in 1988, makes it a very late “911” model. This model was replaced with the 964 in 1989. Here we find this one in outstanding “Carrera Sport” trim, the Carrera name being seen here for the first time since its last use in 1977.
Featuring a normally aspirated, air cooled 3.2L flat-six, the engine produced 207hp and could get from 0-60mph in under 5.4 seconds. The car would achieve a top speed of 150mph. Porsche tended to be modest about their performance claims and this car always did much better in tests than the factory figure of 6.3 seconds. The car featured larger brakes and improved cooling from a redesigned oil cooler and the introduction of an electrically controlled fan. In its constantly evolving design, this car also featured improved fuel injection that also improved performance, efficiency, and economy.
Exalto PE2
The tyres chosen for this 911 are the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 in staggered fitment front, 205/55R16 and rear, 225/50R16. Chosen not only for the incredible Michelin Summer Cash Back promotion, giving the Customer a £40 reward for this purchase. The team at ZR tyres fitted the “N0” marked tyres to this staggered wide rear alloy wheel setup. The N0 marking shows this tyre was developed by Michelin in partnership with Porsche through the homologation program. This process sees the tyre and car manufacturers work closely together. Through extensive testing, this ensures that the car performs as well as it was intended.
The Pilot Exalto PE2 was born from Michelin’s involvement with the World Rally Championship (WRC) and according to the Michelin website features “VCP technology” -Variable Contact Patch technology that increases the area of tread in contact with the road as corner forces increase. The tyre also features “ALM” -Adhesion and Longevity Maximised technology. Water dispersal is also enhanced through the asymmetric tread design with variable “groove to rubber” ratio across the tread.
