BMW “Star” accredited Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres for BMW M140i

Article written by Bush Tyres Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres for BMW M140i

This 2017 BMW M140i called into Allround Tyres for a full set of Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres with BMW “Star” accreditation.

The BMW M140i

This (F21) BMW M140i is one of the most powerful hatchbacks ever produced by BMW. Powered by the B58 3.0L in-line six turbocharged engine producing over 335hp and 500nm of torque. This car can get from 0-60 in seconds and on to a top speed of 150mph. This engine replaced the already very fast 135i. The M140i taking performance to the next level in the range from its launch in 2016. The car was eventually replaced with the F40 generation 1 series car in 2019.

This M140i is fitted with the 8-speed automatic 8 speed ZF gearbox found in most performance cars of this generation. The car was also available to be ordered with the 6 Speed manual. In 2017 the M140i won the coveted What Car magazines “best hot hatch over £25,000” award.

Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres

BMW opted for the Michelin Supersports when this car was new, and so did this customer when it came time for a change. Fitted here in original staggered front 225/40ZR18 88Y and 245/35ZR18 92Y rear sizes.

Upon launch the Supersport took the performance car world by storm. It was the tyre of choice for any “drivers’ car”. This crown was only taken by the more recent launch of Michelins Pilot Sport 4S. Despite the reviews claiming a superior wet grip from the PS4S and the tyre being constructed using newer technology and compounds. There is a place and demands for Michelin to continue the now older Supersport designs.

The tyre still holds many homologation program accreditations, such as these with the BMW * Star markings. This star marking demonstrates that Michelin and BMW worked closely together on testing and development of these tyres specifically for use on its range of performance cars. According to Michelin’s website the Supersport is a high-performance summer sports tyre engineered for premium car manufacturers. It offers control in corners and optimum grip for straight line acceleration. Featuring Variable Contact Patch 2.0 (VCP2.0) technology, this maximises the contact patch and road contact.

The tyre also features a high-density fibre “Twaron Belt” that grips the centre of the tread and distributes forces evenly for increased stability. This all results in the tyre holding its shape better for maximum performance and grip.

Don’t forget! If you purchased Michelin Tyres from any of the Bush Tyres group locations between February and May 2023, you still have until the end of June to make your claim for up to £100.
