Pirelli PZERO N1 Ultra High-Performance Tyres for 2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S

Article written by Bush Tyres

This 2015 Porsche 911 (991.1) Turbo S, visited our Spalding Pirelli Performance Centre for a full set of Pirelli PZERO N1 Ultra High Performance (UHP) tyres. The customer also qualified for cashback from Pirelli as a member of the Porsche Owners Club GB.

2015 911 (991.1) Turbo S PDK

Fitted with the incredible 3.8L flat-6, this is a 991.1 model, introduced first as a convertible from 2013. It has 2 turbos giving the car 513hp and 620nm of Torque as standard. The enhanced "S" version has an incredible 552bhp and 700nm or torque, this also increases to 750nm with a very clever "over boost" system. The power is delivered through a 7 speed PDK gearbox and all-wheel drive system. 0-62 takes only 3.0 seconds (only 0.1 seconds more than the coupe). Some car journalists even achieved 2.6 Seconds in testing! The car has adaptive aero and features a passive rear wheel steering system to help to help it stick to the road.

Pirelli PZero N1

This vehicle was fitted with the, 245/35ZR20 91Y PZERO N1 (front) and 305/30ZR20 103Y PZERO N1 (Rear). This is a wider rear option over the 295/30ZR20 found on the standard 991.1. The specified wheels on the Turbo feature the factory "Centre- Lock" hub. In order to remove and refit these correctly, the Porsche "Polygon" tool is required along with an extra duty torque wrench. This is required to secure these wheels correctly. A clear removal and fitting sequence must be followed carefully and "Optimol Paste" must also be applied to ensure no problems with either wheel detachment or future removal. Not many garages can remove and refit these correctly, which can lead to issues or damage to the wheel or hub. It is always best to use a specialist garage like ours, who are all trained to work on this style of wheel.

The importance of "N1" Markings

As with other manufacturer markings we have featured, the "N" marking on these tyres denotes they are part of the Homologation Process. This means the tyres were developed with Pirelli and Porsche specifically for use on their vehicles. These tyres should be fitted in matching full sets wherever possible. New versions are updated and released throughout the life cycle of the tyre. Starting typically with N0, then progressing through N1, N2, N3 as tyre technology develops. You are always recommended fitting the newest/highest available "N number" for the car.  Ideally always in matching pairs across an axle, as a minimum, but preferably in full sets whenever available.
