Range Rover Leads Where Others Follow
The 2014 SDV8 Autobiography is a fourth generation Range Rover (L405). The car is powered by a 4.4 V8 turbocharged diesel engine producing over 335hp. The power is delivered to all four wheels through an 8 Speed ZF 8HP fully automatic gearbox.
The car was launched at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and was the first to use an all-aluminium monocoque unitary body structure. This made it not only the first Range Rover to do this but also the first production 4×4 SUV from any manufacturer. This resulted in a class leading 420kg weight reduction over the outgoing L322, improving drivability and efficiency. The L405 was eventually replaced with the fifth and current generation or Range Rover in 2022.

The team at Allround Tyre in Rotherham welcomed a 2014 L405 into their depot recently to be fitted with a full set of Pirelli 275/40ZR22 108Y Scorpion Verde All Season LR marked tyres.

For as long as we can all remember, Pirelli tyres have been fitted to Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Pirelli began their close working relationship in the 1970s when Pirelli created the Cinturato P5 for Jaguar. For the first-generation Range Rover (Classic), the car manufacturer set Pirelli engineers the task to achieve the lowest emissions possible while maintaining the cars off road ability.
SCORPION VERDE™ ALL SEASON is a Pirelli’s Crossover & SUV tyre developed with a laser focus on safety across a variety of conditions. The lateral stability of the tyre and the traction on wet, ensures all season performances. The tyres feature the M+S marking engraved on the sidewall which is suitable for use in all seasons. The tyre also carries the “LR” marking, meaning it has been specifically developed for use on JLR vehicles.
With class leading rolling resistance to help fuel emissions, the Scorpion Verde All Season tyre also maintains its off-road abilities. PNCS™ The PIRELLI NOISE CANCELLING SYSTEM™ (PNCS) is a technology which is able to reduce the noise inside the vehicle thanks to a sound absorbing device applied to the inside circumferential wall of the tyre, reducing noise by up to half.
The Pirelli Scorpion was tested on the toughest roads in the UK, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. The tyres also passed the all-important “Hill Test” where the car is driven up a hill at constant speed. It’s then driven across the slope to test the lateral grip on wet grassy conditions. These developments help give these tyres not only the best rolling resistance in class but also the world-class off-road ability expected from a Range Rover.
